Falls of Rough, KY (January 17, 2025) – On Wednesday, a serious accident involving a pedestrian occurred in the 11000 block of Falls of Rough Rd (KY 79). The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene alongside the Falls of Rough Volunteer Fire Department and Grayson County EMS.

According to witnesses, 58-year-old Christopher Tanner of Falls of Rough was standing in the southbound lane of KY 79 while assisting with a truck pulling a camper up an icy driveway. Tanner, who was wearing a reflective safety vest, was waving a flashlight toward northbound traffic when the incident occurred.

A 2003 Honda Civic, driven by 36-year-old Michael Biskup of Falls of Rough, was traveling southbound and reportedly did not see Tanner in the roadway. The vehicle struck Tanner from behind, causing him to be thrown over the hood, into the windshield, and onto the roof, where the back glass shattered. Tanner was then thrown onto the roadway in front of the car.

Tanner sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby airport, where he was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital. His condition remains critical. Authorities are awaiting toxicology results, and no charges have been filed at this time.

Our thoughts are with Christopher Tanner and his loved ones during this difficult time.

Pedestrian Accidents in Kentucky

Pedestrian accidents, particularly those occurring in rural areas like Falls of Rough, can result in severe injuries due to the lack of visibility, higher vehicle speeds, and limited lighting. In situations like this, icy conditions and reduced reaction times may also contribute to the incident.

To prevent such tragedies, both pedestrians and drivers are encouraged to take precautions. Pedestrians should ensure they are visible to motorists by wearing reflective gear and using lights when necessary. Drivers, in turn, must remain alert, reduce speeds in poorly lit areas, and exercise extra caution during adverse weather conditions.

As authorities continue their investigation, this incident highlights the importance of vigilance and safety for all road users. By working together, drivers and pedestrians can reduce the likelihood of similar accidents.
