Sauk Rapids, MN (January 17, 2025) – Emergency responders were quick to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of northbound Highway 23 and 47th Ave NE in Benton County. The incident occurred at approximately 1:12 p.m., involving a 2007 Freightliner Stepvan and a 2010 Toyota Camry.

The collision happened as the Freightliner Stepvan was crossing the southbound lanes of Highway 23 while the Toyota Camry traveled southbound on the same highway. The vehicles collided at the intersection, prompting a swift response from Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Sauk Rapids Fire, and Mayo Ambulance.

Emergency responders assessed and treated the individuals involved in the crash. Rashanda Marie Williamson, a 37-year-old passenger in the Toyota Camry, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Saint Cloud Hospital for further care. The drivers of both vehicles, Debbie Jean Renstrom, 31, of Saint Joseph, and Reany Sara Theis, 21, of Saint Cloud, were reportedly uninjured. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Investigators noted that alcohol was not a factor in this collision, and the road conditions were dry at the time of the incident.

Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the contributing factors of the crash. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this accident.

Car Accidents in Minnesota

Minnesota is no stranger to roadway incidents, particularly at busy intersections like Highway 23. According to recent state reports, intersections account for a significant portion of vehicle collisions each year. Factors such as driver distraction, failure to yield, and misjudgment of distances often play a role in these incidents.

In this case, the timely response by emergency personnel underscores the importance of preparedness and quick action. Crashes involving larger vehicles, such as Freightliner Stepvans, highlight the need for vigilance when navigating high-traffic areas. Drivers are reminded to adhere to traffic signals, remain alert, and approach intersections with caution to reduce the risk of collisions.

For those involved in car accidents, securing medical attention, documenting the scene, and contacting local authorities are critical first steps. Additionally, understanding your rights and responsibilities is essential, especially when dealing with insurance claims or potential legal actions.
