Screven County, GA (January 16, 2025) – A tragic fishing accident near Poor Robin Rd off Highway 24 claimed the lives of two individuals after their boat capsized on Wednesday. Authorities confirmed the fatalities following an extensive search and rescue operation.
The Screven County Sheriff’s Office reported that three young males were fishing in a boat when it overturned. One individual managed to escape and report the incident to authorities. Rescue crews, including Screven County EMS, Fire, Marine Rescue Squadron, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and local scuba divers, conducted a five-hour search in the 46-degree water. Tragically, the bodies of the two remaining victims were recovered from the pond.
Officials stated that no foul play is suspected, but the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of their families as authorities work to gather additional details about the circumstances of the accident.
