Pawling, NY (January 16, 2025) – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic two-car collision that occurred on Old Quaker Hill Rd near Meeting House Rd on Monday evening. The crash was reported at approximately 7:05 PM and resulted in the death of one driver.

Authorities identified the deceased as Lisa M. Gutierrez, 52, of Pawling. According to deputies, Gutierrez was driving a BMW southbound on Old Quaker Hill Rd when her car crossed the center pavement markings and collided with a northbound Ford pickup truck. Gutierrez sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Danbury Hospital, where she passed away on Tuesday. The driver of the Ford pickup was reportedly uninjured.

A preliminary investigation suggests that alcohol impairment may have contributed to the crash, although this remains under review. The Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit are continuing their investigation, and further details may be released as they become available. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Lisa M. Gutierrez during this difficult time.

Alcohol-Impaired Driving and Road Safety in New York

Incidents involving alcohol-impaired driving remain a leading cause of serious and fatal crashes in New York. Rural roads like Old Quaker Hill Rd, which often have sharp curves and limited visibility, present additional challenges for drivers. Such collisions highlight the critical need for responsible driving and adherence to traffic laws.

New York authorities work to combat impaired driving through initiatives like sobriety checkpoints and public education campaigns. Drivers are urged to avoid operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol or drugs and to prioritize safety on the road.
