Burlington, VT (January 16, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle crash on Vermont Route 127, also known as the Beltline, claimed one life and left another person injured on Wednesday evening. The collision occurred just south of the North Avenue interchange at approximately 5:30 PM.
According to the Burlington Police Department, an Audi traveling at high speed crossed the median and struck a Jeep. The driver of the Audi, identified as 18-year-old Mark Omand of Essex Junction, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, 45-year-old Derek Lorrain of Burlington, sustained injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Burlington Fire Department. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. No other individuals were involved in the accident.
Authorities closed Route 127 for several hours as they investigated, reopening the roadway shortly before midnight. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and further updates are expected.
