Troy, MI (January 15, 2025) – A tragic head-on collision in Troy on Tuesday morning claimed the lives of both drivers involved. The accident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. on westbound W Long Lake Rd near Northfield Pkwy, according to the Troy Police Department.

Authorities report that a 53-year-old man from Bloomfield Hills was driving a Saab 97X eastbound in the westbound lane when the vehicle collided head-on with a Dodge Caravan traveling westbound. The Caravan was driven by a 70-year-old Sterling Heights man.

Emergency responders arrived promptly, but both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in either vehicle. The Troy Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the circumstances leading to this devastating crash.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of both individuals during this difficult time.

Head-On Collisions in Michigan

Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of car accidents, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities. These crashes typically occur when a driver crosses into the opposing lane of traffic, as seen in the tragic incident on W Long Lake Rd.

In Michigan, head-on collisions are less common than rear-end or side-impact crashes but account for a disproportionately high number of fatal accidents. Contributing factors often include driver error, impaired driving, or medical emergencies.

Drivers are encouraged to stay alert, avoid distractions, and adhere to speed limits, especially in high-traffic or multi-lane areas like those near Northfield Pkwy. Local authorities continue to emphasize road safety initiatives to reduce the frequency of these tragic events.
