Oronoco, MN (January 14, 2025) – Emergency responders were called to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 63 and 18th Ave NW in Oronoco Township, Olmsted County, early Monday afternoon. The crash involved a 2018 Mazda 3 sedan and a 2015 Ford Explorer SUV.
The collision occurred at approximately 1:53 PM when the Mazda, driven by Elaine Kay Eck, 80, of Oronoco, MN, was traveling southbound on 18th Ave NW. Simultaneously, a Ford Explorer driven by Dezmon Lee Johnson, 31, of Rochester, MN, was heading westbound on Highway 63. The vehicles collided in the intersection.
First responders, including Rochester Fire, Olmsted County Sheriff, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance crews, arrived promptly to assess the situation. Ms. Eck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Olmsted Hospital for treatment. Mr. Johnson was uninjured in the incident. Both drivers were confirmed to be wearing seat belts, and airbags in both vehicles deployed upon impact. No involvement of alcohol was reported.
