Weaverville, NC (January 14, 2025) – A fatal collision involving a wrong-way driver occurred Monday on I-26 East near exit 15 for Jupiter Rd. The North Carolina Highway Patrol (NCHP) confirmed that one person was killed and another sustained serious injuries in the crash.
According to NCHP, the incident happened when a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on I-26 east collided with another car. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, identified as 87-year-old David Warner Dean of Anderson, South Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Mission Hospital with serious injuries. Their identity and current condition have not been disclosed. Authorities temporarily shut down one side of I-26 East to manage the scene and investigate the circumstances of the crash.
