New Iberia, LA (January 13, 2025) – A tragic accident involving a bicyclist and a vehicle claimed the life of 31-year-old Timothy Maturin, Jr., of New Iberia on January 11, 2025. The fatal crash occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 88 (Coteau Rd) near its intersection with Louisiana Highway 89 in Iberia Parish.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop I, Maturin was traveling westbound on LA Hwy 88 on a bicycle when he was struck from behind by a 2019 Ford F-150 traveling in the same direction. Additionally, Maturin was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which resulted in fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Ford, who was properly restrained, did not sustain any injuries. Authorities do not suspect impairment as a factor; the driver voluntarily provided a breath sample that showed no detectable alcohol. As part of the investigation, a standard toxicology sample was collected from Maturin and submitted for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Timothy Maturin during this heartbreaking time.
