Hernando County, FL (January 13, 2025) – An 86-year-old woman lost her life, and a 72-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a collision involving a semi-truck on Sunday afternoon near US Highway 301. The crash occurred at approximately 1:49 PM, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
FHP reported that the man and woman were traveling east on State Route 50 when they attempted to make a left turn at the intersection of US-301. Their vehicle entered the path of a westbound semi-truck driven by a 66-year-old Iowa man, resulting in a severe collision.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the 72-year-old man to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries. The semi-truck driver was uninjured, according to FHP.
The intersection was temporarily closed as authorities conducted their investigation.
