Richmond, IN (January 12, 2025) – A tragic accident at the intersection of US Highway 27 and State Route 122 in Wayne County left one person dead and three others injured on Thursday afternoon. Emergency responders were called to the scene around 4:00 p.m. on January 11.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the collision involved a black 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and a red 2006 Dodge Ram. Both vehicles were thrown into a field southwest of the crash site. Inside the Chevrolet, the driver, identified as 68-year-old Troy Byrd from Manchester, Kentucky, sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to an Ohio hospital for treatment. Tragically, the passenger, 60-year-old Nannie Byrd, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Dodge was occupied by two juveniles who suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for care. Investigators determined that the Dodge failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling on State Route 122, causing the Chevrolet to strike its passenger side. The impact caused the Dodge to roll at least once.
