Chico, CA (January 10, 2025) – A tragic vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision early Thursday morning claimed the life of a skateboarder on the Esplanade near Mission Ranch Blvd. The accident occurred around 2:07 a.m., prompting a response from the Chico Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the skateboarder, who sustained severe injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The individual did not have identification, and their identity remains unknown at this time. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in efforts to identify the deceased.
Preliminary findings from the Chico Police Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) indicate that the pedestrian was skateboarding in the middle of the roadway when they were struck by a vehicle. The driver, a 21-year-old Chico resident, remained on the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation.
