St. Louis, MO (January 10, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 270, north of Olive Blvd, at approximately 12:40 PM on Thursday. The crash, caused by unsafe speeds for roadway conditions, left one person injured and resulted in significant damage to one of the vehicles.
The accident involved a 1996 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by a 25-year-old female from Florissant, MO, and a 2020 Volvo VNL, operated by a 49-year-old female from Palatine, IL. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling in lane 1 at a speed too fast for the road conditions, causing it to slide clockwise and cross into lane 4. Despite efforts by the Volvo driver to steer right and avoid the collision, the Cobalt’s front left struck the rear left tire of the Volvo. The Chevrolet continued sliding, and its rear struck the left front of the Volvo.
The driver of the Chevrolet sustained injuries and was transported by Creve Coeur Fire Protection to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for treatment. The Chevrolet was totaled and removed from the scene by McNamara Towing, while the Volvo sustained minor damage and was driven from the site.
Local law enforcement and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are investigating the incident, emphasizing that weather and speed were contributing factors. Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we wish her a swift recovery.
