Riverside, CA (January 9, 2025) – A tragic accident on Wednesday morning claimed the life of Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Timothy Corlew in a collision involving his patrol motorcycle and multiple vehicles on the 91 Freeway. The incident occurred at approximately 5:35 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway near La Sierra Ave.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Deputy Corlew was traveling in the HOV lane when he encountered stopped traffic across all lanes. For reasons still under investigation, the deputy’s motorcycle collided with the rear of a Toyota Lexus, causing him to be ejected onto a Hyundai sedan.
Paramedics from the Riverside Fire Department arrived quickly and attempted life-saving measures. Deputy Corlew was transported to Riverside Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The driver of the Lexus sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the same hospital for treatment, while the occupant of the Hyundai was uninjured.
The CHP’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the factors that led to the collision.
