Camden Wyoming, DE (January 8, 2025) – A devastating residential fire on the 200 block of Wynsome Blvd in Camden Wyoming left a juvenile in critical condition and injured one adult occupant and a firefighter on Tuesday evening.

The fire was reported shortly after 5:45 p.m., with heavy flames emanating from the garage of a two-story townhome at the end of the row. Multiple agencies, including Camden Wyoming (41), Dover (46), Magnolia (55), Dover AFB (58), Little Creek (54), and Dover EMS (63), responded to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters learned that a juvenile occupant was unaccounted for and launched an urgent search of the home.

By 6:00 p.m., the missing juvenile was located on the second floor and removed from the structure. The child was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus and later airlifted to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, where they remain in critical condition. An adult occupant sustained minor injuries and was also transported to the hospital for treatment. Two other juveniles escaped the residence unharmed, while a firefighter was treated on-site for injuries.

The fire was brought under control shortly after 6:30 p.m. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze, which reportedly started in the garage. Working smoke detectors in the home alerted the occupants to the fire, enabling the timely escape of several residents.

Residential Fires in Delaware

Residential fires are among the most life-threatening emergencies, often resulting in injuries, fatalities, and significant property loss. In Delaware, townhomes and multi-family residences face heightened risks due to shared walls and close quarters.

Fire prevention measures, such as the use of working smoke detectors, play a crucial role in alerting occupants to danger. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), homes with functional smoke alarms reduce the risk of fire fatalities by nearly half. However, structural fires still account for the majority of civilian fire injuries in the state.

For families affected by residential fires, immediate assistance with medical care, temporary housing, and emotional support is critical. Resources from state agencies and non-profit organizations are available to aid victims in recovery and rebuilding.
