Canyon County, ID (January 6, 2025) – Idaho State Police (ISP) are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred early Saturday morning. The crash happened at approximately 7:53 a.m. on westbound US20, near milepost 14, just west of Notus.

Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victims. A 22-year-old male from Parma, ID, driving a blue 2005 Toyota Tundra westbound, attempted to pass a semi-truck when his vehicle collided head-on with a red 2004 Toyota Prius traveling eastbound. The Prius was driven by a 33-year-old male, also from Parma.

The driver of the Prius, despite wearing a seat belt, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Tundra’s driver, who was also wearing a seat belt, was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition remains undisclosed.

The Idaho State Police, in collaboration with the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office and Air St. Luke’s, responded promptly to manage the situation. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragic event.

Fatal Accidents in Idaho

Fatal traffic accidents, such as the one reported on US20, highlight the dangers of risky maneuvers like passing in unsafe conditions. According to the Idaho Transportation Department, head-on collisions represent one of the deadliest types of crashes, often caused by reckless or ill-timed passing attempts.

In Idaho, rural highways like US20 are particularly prone to serious accidents due to high speeds, narrow lanes, and limited visibility. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, particularly when attempting to pass slower vehicles. Ensuring there is sufficient distance and clear visibility is essential to prevent catastrophic outcomes.

In situations involving serious injuries or fatalities, families and victims often face significant emotional and financial hardships. Seeking legal assistance and understanding your rights can be vital in navigating the aftermath of such incidents.
