Homosassa, FL (January 6, 2025) – An 87-year-old man tragically passed away after his car crashed and caught fire on Sunday afternoon in Citrus County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The incident occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. as the man was driving his Kia Forte along W. Grover Cleveland Blvd near Homosassa. Authorities stated that the driver experienced a medical emergency, causing his vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a roadside sign. The car’s wheels continued spinning after the crash, igniting the grass beneath the vehicle. The flames quickly spread to the car.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene, extricated the driver from the burning vehicle, and rushed him to a hospital. Despite their efforts, the driver succumbed to his injuries. No other individuals were involved in the incident.
