Ralls County, MO (January 5, 2025) – A rear-end collision involving two vehicles occurred Friday evening on US-61, three miles south of Hannibal. The accident, which happened at approximately 5:45 p.m., resulted in one person sustaining injuries and both vehicles being significantly damaged.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by a 22-year-old man from Bowling Green, MO, collided with the rear of a 2012 Toyota Highlander. The impact caused the Highlander to veer off the right side of the roadway and overturn. Emergency services from the Ralls County Sheriff’s Department, New London Fire Department, and Hannibal Fire Department responded to the scene.

The driver of the Highlander, a 63-year-old woman from New London, MO, sustained minor injuries. She was transported by Ralls County Ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment. Both vehicles were extensively damaged and towed from the scene by Robert’s Garage and Towing.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash and remind drivers to maintain a safe following distance, especially on highways.

We hope for the full recovery of the wounded individuals.

Rear-End Collisions in Missouri

Rear-end collisions are one of the most common types of accidents on Missouri highways. Factors such as distracted driving, tailgating, and sudden braking often contribute to these incidents. When vehicles are traveling at highway speeds, the force of impact can result in severe damage and injuries.

In accidents like the one on US-61, liability is typically assigned to the trailing vehicle unless extenuating circumstances are identified. Drivers are encouraged to stay vigilant and maintain safe distances to reduce the risk of rear-end collisions.
