Newark, DE (January 2, 2025) – A tragic collision on I-95 southbound at the I-495 split in the early hours of January 1, 2025, claimed the life of 33-year-old Newark resident Kierra West and left her six-year-old passenger and two paramedics injured. The accident occurred at approximately 2:33 a.m. as a New Castle County Paramedic vehicle was responding to an unrelated incident.
The collision involved a 2024 Ford F-350 paramedic vehicle and a 2013 Nissan Altima driven by West. Authorities report that the paramedics were responding to a crash on the left shoulder of the interstate with their emergency lights activated. West’s vehicle, which was carrying her six-year-old son, struck the paramedic vehicle under unclear circumstances.
The Altima came to rest on the left shoulder, while the paramedic vehicle remained in a lane on I-95. Emergency responders provided immediate care at the scene. Tragically, Kierra West was pronounced deceased at the site of the crash. Her six-year-old son was transported to Nemours Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the paramedic vehicle’s occupants were taken to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.
