Aberdeen, NC (December 1, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred late Saturday morning on U.S. 15/501 at Pee Dee Rd, just south of Aberdeen in Moore County. The crash, involving a flatbed truck and an SUV, resulted in one fatality and serious injuries to two others.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that the wreck happened shortly before 11:00 AM when the driver of a Kia SUV failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Pee Dee Rd. The SUV pulled into the path of a large flatbed truck traveling north on U.S. 15/501, causing a violent collision.
The impact forced the flatbed truck off the left side of the roadway, where it struck a large pine tree. The SUV was also knocked off the road. Tragically, the driver of the flatbed truck was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger in the Kia sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders arranged for two helicopters to airlift them from a nearby makeshift landing zone to a trauma center for treatment. Their current condition has not been disclosed.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is actively investigating the crash to determine the contributing factors.
