Cortlandville, NY (January 1, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 81 near mile marker 49 in Cortlandville resulted in injuries on Monday morning. The New York State Police at Homer responded to the scene around 8:00 AM.
Troopers reported that a southbound Toyota Camry traveling in the right lane rear-ended a Honda CRV for reasons still under investigation. After the collision, the Toyota veered into the center median. Emergency responders utilized a Division-issued “RESQME” window breaker to access the Toyota and remove the driver, identified as Kenneth Thompson, 54, of McDonough, NY. Thompson was unconscious but breathing and was transported by TLC Ambulance to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for further medical treatment. He has since been interviewed by law enforcement.
The Honda CRV was driven by Darrell Batchelor, 43, of Grand Junction, CO, with Eddy Larson, 60, of Grover, WY, as a passenger. Both individuals were evaluated by EMS at the scene but did not require hospital transport.
The incident caused temporary disruptions on Interstate 81 as authorities secured the area and conducted their investigation. The State Police confirmed that the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
