Fairfax County, VA (December 30, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of 26-year-old Michael Yung of Lorton, VA, on Friday evening. The crash occurred shortly after 6:30 PM near the intersection of West Ox Road and Piney Branch Road in the Fair Lakes area.
According to police, Yung was riding a 2024 BMW motorcycle northbound on West Ox Road when he collided with a 2021 GMC SUV that was attempting to make a left turn onto Piney Branch Road. The impact resulted in fatal injuries to Yung, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police indicated that alcohol was not a factor in the crash but noted that speed might have contributed. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances and are seeking additional information from witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the incident.
Our thoughts are with Michael Yung’s family and loved ones during this difficult time, and we wish the SUV passenger a full recovery.
Motorcycle Accidents in Virginia
Motorcycle accidents, such as the one on West Ox Road, are often devastating due to the limited protection afforded to riders. Left-turn collisions are a frequent cause of motorcycle crashes, as drivers of larger vehicles may misjudge the speed or visibility of approaching motorcycles.
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles emphasizes the need for drivers to exercise caution at intersections, where the majority of motorcycle collisions occur. Riders are also encouraged to wear high-visibility gear, maintain safe speeds, and stay alert to minimize risks.
