Brevator Twp, MN (December 30, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 33 in Brevator Township, St. Louis County, resulted in multiple individuals sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The crash involved a 2013 Chevy Suburban and a 2008 Mercury Mariner.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:12 AM. Reports indicate that the Chevy Suburban was traveling eastbound on Highway 2 when the Mercury Mariner, northbound on Highway 33, exited onto Highway 2. The Mercury accelerated into the intersection and was broadsided by the Chevy Suburban. Emergency responders from the Saint Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Saint Louis County Rescue, and Cloquet Fire and Ambulance provided assistance at the scene.
The Chevy Suburban was driven by 58-year-old Thomas Edward Lorenz of Cloquet, MN, who was unharmed. Passengers in the Suburban included Charlene Denise Metzer, 49, of Nashwauk, MN, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and Christine Barbara Metzer, 51, of Cloquet, MN, who was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Other passengers, including two minors aged 7 and 9 and an 18-year-old, were unharmed.
The Mercury Mariner was driven by 29-year-old Zenovia Emily Stresow from Hermantown, MN, who also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital. A passenger, 26-year-old Mollyann Eileen Christensen from Floodwood, MN, suffered similar injuries and was taken to the same facility for treatment.
Airbags deployed in both vehicles, and all involved parties were reported to have been wearing seat belts, with one exception. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash. Local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
