Marion, IA (December 28, 2024) – A wrong-way collision on Highway 13 near Travis Rd on Friday night claimed the life of one individual and left others injured. Emergency responders were called to the scene at 9:48 p.m. to assist victims and assess the damage caused by the multi-vehicle crash.
According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, a 2003 Saturn was traveling northbound on Highway 13 when it collided with a 2010 Honda CRV. One of the passengers of the Saturn, Yoseph Wendafrash Abera, 18, of New Jersey, was ejected from the vehicle and tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and another passenger of the Saturn sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Honda CRV, who had to be extricated from the vehicle by rescue crews, suffered life-threatening injuries and was also hospitalized. A third vehicle, a 2024 Subaru, was involved in the crash, but its occupants were unharmed.
Northbound lanes of Highway 13 remained closed for over four hours while emergency crews worked to clear the scene and investigate. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
