Springfield Township, OH (December 27, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision claimed the lives of two drivers Thursday afternoon in Greater Cincinnati. The crash occurred on Daly Rd at approximately 4:30 PM, involving a grey Toyota Sienna and a black Mercedes SUV.
Springfield Township Police and Fire Department officials confirmed that the Toyota Sienna caught fire upon impact. First responders arrived at the scene and worked to extricate both drivers from their vehicles. The driver of the Mercedes SUV, identified as 55-year-old Jim Schneider, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Sienna, 41-year-old Christopher Larkins, was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Authorities stated that there were no additional passengers in either vehicle. Investigators believe that Larkins lost control of the Toyota Sienna while navigating a curve, crossing the center line, and colliding head-on with Schneider’s Mercedes SUV. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and speed is suspected to be a contributing factor.
The crash resulted in significant road closures on Daly Rd as authorities conducted a detailed investigation into the cause of the collision.
Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of Jim Schneider and Christopher Larkins during this heartbreaking time.
Head-On Collisions in Ohio

Such incidents are frequently caused by factors like speeding, loss of control, or driver distraction, particularly on curved or narrow roadways.
Ohio law provides legal recourse for families of victims, allowing them to seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, and other damages resulting from such accidents. Understanding these rights can be vital in navigating the aftermath of a tragedy.
Efforts by state and local authorities to enhance road safety include improved signage, public awareness campaigns, and enforcement of seatbelt and speed laws. Motorists are urged to remain vigilant, adhere to speed limits, and always wear seatbelts to reduce the risk of fatal accidents.
