Saline, MO (December 27, 2024) – A rear-end collision involving two vehicles occurred on Interstate 70 westbound at mile marker 82.8 on Thursday afternoon, leaving one individual injured. The crash was reported at approximately 1:31 PM.

According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened when a 2011 Kia Soul, traveling westbound, slowed for traffic. A 2020 Ford Edge, also heading westbound, struck the rear of the Kia Soul. The impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway; the Ford Edge veered off the left side, while the Kia Soul exited to the right. Both vehicles sustained total damage and were removed from the scene by Don’s Towing.

Emergency responders, including paramedics, arrived promptly to assist the injured. A 27-year-old female passenger in the Kia Soul, a resident of Oak Grove, MO, sustained injuries and was transported to Fitzgibbon Hospital for further evaluation. The drivers of both vehicles, a 28-year-old male from Oak Grove, MO, and a 71-year-old female from Alton, IL, were reportedly unharmed.

The incident is under investigation as authorities work to determine the contributing factors. Our thoughts are with those impacted by this accident.

Rear-End Collisions in Missouri

Rear-end collisions are among the most common types of accidents on Missouri roadways, particularly on busy highways like I-70. These crashes often occur when drivers fail to maintain a safe following distance or are unable to react to changes in traffic flow in time.

Missouri drivers are reminded of the importance of adhering to speed limits and remaining attentive, especially during heavy traffic conditions. Ensuring sufficient braking distance can significantly reduce the likelihood of rear-end crashes.

Victims of rear-end collisions can face a range of consequences, from minor injuries to extensive vehicle damage. Seeking medical attention and documenting the details of the accident are critical steps for those involved.
