Queens, NY (December 26, 2024) – A devastating hit-and-run incident on Christmas night claimed the life of 45-year-old Antonina Freycinet at the intersection of 111th Avenue and 158th Street in Queens. The accident occurred around 9:35 PM, just a short distance from her home.
According to officials, Freycinet was struck by two vehicles as she was walking to a nearby store. The first vehicle fled the scene without stopping, while the second vehicle’s driver reportedly did not see her in time. Tragically, Freycinet succumbed to her injuries later at Jamaica Hospital.
Heartbroken family members, including her 20-year-old son, Andrew Dasrath, shared the painful aftermath of the tragedy. Dasrath recounted that his mother was breathing when he reached her, and he tried to ensure she remained still while awaiting help. However, despite efforts by emergency responders, her heart stopped in the ambulance, and she could not be revived.
Witness Bryan Lopez, who lives nearby, described the heartbreaking scene and recalled hearing the pleas of Freycinet’s children as they begged her to stay alive. Surveillance footage from the area captured cars moving through the intersection moments before bystanders gathered at the crash site.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and locate the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle. No arrests have been made at this time. Our thoughts are with Freycinet’s family during this tragic and challenging time.
