Midland, MI (December 26, 2024) – A tragic pedestrian accident on Christmas Eve claimed the life of 49-year-old Eric Emery of Midland. The crash occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Bay City Rd near Burgess St.
Midland police reported that Emery was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a westbound GMC Sierra. Emergency responders arrived to find Emery unconscious and severely injured. He was transported to MyMichigan Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 28-year-old man from Freeland, remained at the scene and called 911 following the collision. Police confirmed that there was no indication of impairment, and the driver was released after officers completed their initial investigation.
According to Officer Brennon Warren, police had a brief interaction with Emery about 30 minutes before the accident and advised him to walk on a sidewalk rather than in the roadway.
