The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) confirmed the incident, which occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Alabama 20 near Lawrence County 434, just a mile north of Hillsboro.

The crash involved a 2004 Honda Accord, driven by 28-year-old Kaelin M. Simpson of Hillsboro, and a 2002 Lexus LX470, operated by 44-year-old Ziyad M. Al-Dabashi. According to ALEA, Simpson tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Al-Dabashi sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

The accident is currently under investigation by local authorities to determine the factors contributing to this devastating event.
