Plant City, FL (December 25, 2024) – A wrong-way collision on State Road 39 in Plant City Wednesday morning resulted in the arrest of an impaired driver and left two people hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash occurred just north of Knights Griffin Rd, where SR-39 transitions into a divided highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
FHP investigators reported that 45-year-old Flor Tulia Perez Roblero was driving a Dodge Grand Caravan southbound in the northbound lane when she struck a Kia Sorento. The Sorento was being driven by a 68-year-old woman from Zephyrhills. The vehicles narrowly avoided a direct head-on collision but still caused significant damage.
Both drivers were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Medical personnel determined the injuries were non-life-threatening.
Perez Roblero was later found to have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.108, exceeding Florida’s legal limit. Additionally, it was discovered that she did not possess a valid driver’s license. Following her hospital discharge, she was arrested and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
Addressing Wrong-Way Driving and Impaired Driving in Florida
Wrong-way driving incidents are often linked to impaired driving and can lead to severe injuries or fatalities. In Florida, wrong-way crashes frequently occur on divided highways, where disoriented or impaired drivers may mistakenly enter the wrong lane. These accidents can have devastating consequences, even when injuries are not life-threatening.
Alcohol impairment remains a leading cause of traffic incidents in Florida. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately one-third of all traffic-related deaths in the U.S. involve drivers under the influence of alcohol. Florida continues to implement measures to address impaired driving, including sobriety checkpoints and public awareness campaigns.
Victims of wrong-way collisions or impaired driving crashes are encouraged to understand their legal options. Compensation may be available for medical costs, vehicle damage, and emotional distress. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution and report suspected impaired or wrong-way drivers immediately.
