Murfreesboro, TN (December 24, 2024) – A serious injury crash involving a pedestrian occurred in the parking lot of a steakhouse at The Avenue Mall on Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro. The incident, reported just before 3 p.m. on Monday, prompted an immediate response from the Murfreesboro Police Department, Fire Rescue Department, and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services.
According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, the crash involved a Honda CRV that had been modified for mail carrier use, with accelerator and brake pedals installed on the passenger side. A preliminary investigation revealed that the woman in the driver’s seat had reversed the vehicle to allow a man in a wheelchair to enter. While the man was being assisted into the SUV, his foot reportedly pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to reverse uncontrollably. The SUV struck a parked vehicle and pinned a woman standing between the two vehicles.
Emergency responders provided care to the critically injured woman at the scene before transporting her to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She was later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition. The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is investigating the incident.
