Maxwell, IN (December 23, 2024) – A residential fire early Sunday morning claimed the life of a man and resulted in minor injuries to a firefighter. The Greenfield Fire Territory (GFT) reported that crews were dispatched to the 100 block of South Center Street around 12:34 a.m. after receiving reports of a structure fire.
A woman alerted by smoke detectors managed to escape the home safely. However, a man was unable to exit the building and was later located by firefighters inside the residence. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the response but has since been treated and released from the hospital. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, and no additional details are available at this time.
