Merced County, CA (December 23, 2024) – A deadly head-on collision occurred Friday evening on Interstate 5, south of Highway 165 and Los Banos, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The tragic crash was reported just before 6:30 p.m. and involved multiple victims, including a child.
Authorities stated that a man driving a Jeep southbound on I-5 crossed the center median for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a Dodge traveling in the northbound lane. The force of the collision caused devastating outcomes, including the ejection of a woman and a baby from the Jeep.
Both the woman and the baby later succumbed to their injuries. The man driving the Jeep and another baby sustained major injuries. In the Dodge, the male driver and a female passenger suffered major injuries, while a young girl miraculously escaped without harm. All victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities have indicated that drugs or alcohol appear to have been factors in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
