Garfield Township, MI (December 22, 2024) – A devastating crash on Saturday evening near Newaygo resulted in one fatality and left two others critically injured. Michigan State Police responded to the collision, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of M-82 and M-37.
According to authorities, a 62-year-old man from Newaygo was driving westbound on M-37 when he turned onto M-82 and collided with a southbound vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man from Grant. Tragically, a 42-year-old Newaygo woman, who was a passenger in the southbound vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other passengers in the southbound vehicle, including a child, sustained critical injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency care. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
The crash also caused significant infrastructure damage, bringing down power poles in the area. Utility crews were dispatched to address the outages and repair the damaged lines.
