Platte County, MO (December 21, 2024) – A multi-vehicle crash occurred early Saturday morning on northbound I-29 near NW 72nd St, leaving several individuals injured and multiple vehicles heavily damaged. The collision took place around 1:44 a.m. and involved four vehicles, including a Jeep Wrangler, a Honda Fit, and a large International truck.
According to authorities, the crash began when an unknown vehicle struck the rear of a 1999 Jeep Wrangler in the right lane, causing the Jeep to spin out of control into the left lane. A 2010 Honda Fit attempted to avoid the Jeep but collided with it, followed by a 2025 International truck, which also struck the Jeep after cresting a hill. The truck subsequently struck the median.
Emergency responders from Kansas City Fire and Kansas City South Fire transported three individuals to North Kansas City Hospital for treatment. A 19-year-old female occupant of the Jeep suffered serious injuries, while the 19-year-old male driver of the Jeep and the 58-year-old male driver of the International truck sustained minor injuries. All individuals involved were reportedly wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, including the role of the unidentified first vehicle. Multiple patrol units and tow services attended the scene.
