Marengo, IL (December 22, 2024) – A serious multiple-vehicle crash occurred Friday afternoon near Route 20 and Thorne Rd in unincorporated Marengo, leaving three people injured, including one critically. The incident prompted a large-scale emergency response, including the use of a medical helicopter.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 4:21 PM following reports of a significant vehicle collision. According to Public Information Officer Alex Vucha, firefighters arrived to find a four-vehicle crash, with one vehicle overturned west of the intersection.
Emergency responders provided immediate care to the injured individuals. A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested to transport a critically injured adult male to Javon Bea Hospital – Riverside in Rockford. An adult female, also from the overturned vehicle, was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with serious injuries. A third person sustained injuries requiring medical attention, though their condition has not been fully detailed.
Fortunately, all occupants had exited their vehicles before emergency personnel arrived, and no extrication was necessary. The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to provide additional ambulances and manpower due to the severity and scale of the incident.
The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
