St. Charles, MO (December 20, 2024) – A multi-vehicle collision involving three cars occurred Thursday evening on westbound Interstate 70 at Route Z, causing injuries and significant traffic disruptions. Emergency responders provided prompt assistance at the scene.

The accident happened at approximately 5:15 PM in Lane 1 of I-70. A 2019 GMC Acadia, driven by a 35-year-old male from Wentzville, MO, was traveling directly behind a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, operated by a 55-year-old male from Warrenton, MO. A 2011 Ford Escape, driven by a 30-year-old male from Moberly, MO, was positioned behind the Acadia.

The collision unfolded as traffic ahead became congested, prompting the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu to stop. The GMC Acadia, following too closely, struck the rear of the Malibu. The Ford Escape subsequently collided with the rear of the Acadia. The Malibu relocated to the left shoulder while the Acadia and Escape came to rest, blocking Lane 1.

A 55-year-old female occupant of the Acadia from New Melle, MO, sustained minor injuries and was transported by St. Charles County Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for treatment. Both the Acadia and the Escape sustained moderate damage and were towed by Superior Towing. The Malibu incurred minor damage and was driven from the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Wentzville Police Department managed the scene to ensure the safety of motorists and to investigate the circumstances of the crash. The exact cause of the collision remains under review. Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Missouri

Multi-vehicle accidents, like this one on I-70, are a frequent occurrence on Missouri’s busy highways. These incidents often result from high traffic density, driver inattention, and following too closely, which increases the risk of chain-reaction crashes.

Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) data indicates that tailgating is a leading cause of highway collisions. It is critical for drivers to maintain a safe following distance, especially during peak traffic hours, to reduce the likelihood of accidents.

Injured parties in multi-vehicle collisions may face medical expenses, vehicle repair costs, and other financial burdens. Understanding the legal avenues available to recover damages is essential for victims navigating the aftermath of such incidents.
