Bicycle Accidents in Illinois
Bicycle collisions with vehicles are among the most severe types of traffic accidents due to cyclists’ vulnerability. Intersections, such as Rohlwing Rd and Campbell St, pose significant risks for bicyclists, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced.
In 2023, the Illinois Department of Transportation reported hundreds of bicycle-related accidents, many resulting in injuries or fatalities. Contributing factors often include poor visibility, driver inattention, and the lack of protective infrastructure for cyclists.
Drivers are reminded to remain vigilant for bicyclists, especially at intersections and during low-light conditions. Yielding the right of way, observing speed limits, and staying alert can significantly reduce the risk of bicycle accidents. Cyclists are encouraged to wear reflective gear and use lights to enhance visibility while navigating roads.
