Berlin Township, OH (December 18, 2024) – A tragic collision at the intersection of US 6 and SR 61 in Erie County claimed the life of a 67-year-old passenger and left two others injured on Tuesday evening. The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. when a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban and a 2018 Dodge Journey collided under circumstances that remain under investigation.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 33-year-old woman driving the Suburban westbound on US 6 failed to yield while making a left turn onto SR 61. This action led to a collision with the Dodge Journey, driven by a 70-year-old man. His passenger, identified as Alethea Green, 67, of Vermilion, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Dodge Journey suffered incapacitating injuries and was also hospitalized.
The 33-year-old driver of the Suburban sustained injuries, though the severity of her condition has not been disclosed. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether seatbelts were in use at the time of the incident.
