Menifee, CA (December 17, 2024) – A 19-year-old motorcyclist, Gabriel Ruiz Valles of San Diego, was killed Saturday evening in a high-speed collision on Interstate 215 near Scott Rd. Authorities reported that the crash occurred at approximately 8:35 p.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Valles was riding a 2021 Aprilia RS 660 in the southbound fast lane when he approached a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro traveling at approximately 70 mph. CHP Officer Mike Lassig indicated that the motorcyclist was traveling at an estimated 100 mph and failed to slow down as he neared the Camaro.

“The rider failed to slow … causing the front of the motorcycle to collide into the rear of the Camaro,” Lassig stated. The impact ejected Valles from the motorcycle, resulting in fatal injuries.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene within 20 minutes and pronounced Valles dead. The driver of the Camaro was unharmed and cooperated with investigators. No arrests were made at the scene as CHP continues to investigate the incident.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Gabriel Ruiz Valles during this difficult time.

Motorcycle Accidents in California

Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable on California’s highways, particularly at high speeds. Interstate 215, a major corridor in Riverside County, often sees heavy traffic and variable driving conditions that can increase accident risks.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), motorcyclists are 28 times more likely to be killed in crashes compared to occupants of passenger vehicles. Excessive speeds, driver inattention, and sudden lane changes are common factors in fatal motorcycle accidents.

For families who have lost loved ones in motorcycle crashes, the emotional and financial toll can be overwhelming. Understanding available resources and seeking support during such challenging times is critical for coping with their loss.
