Winthrop, ME (December 16, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle crash occurred on Route 202 in Winthrop on Sunday, December 14, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m. The collision claimed the life of 28-year-old Justin Mason of Monmouth and left two others injured.
According to the Winthrop Police Department, Mason was traveling westbound on Route 202 when another vehicle, driven by 41-year-old Mariah St. Laurent of Leeds, was traveling eastbound. St. Laurent was slowing down to make a left turn onto Royal Street when the crash occurred. Mason was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger sustained life-threatening injuries. The passenger was transported to Central Maine Medical Center for treatment.
St. Laurent, who was properly restrained, sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was taken to Maine General Hospital in Augusta for further evaluation.
Winthrop police, with the assistance of Monmouth police and Maine State Police, are investigating the crash. The Kennebec-Somerset District Attorney’s Office has also been notified as part of the ongoing investigation.
