Indianapolis, IN (December 12, 2024) – A motorcyclist died Sunday evening after a hit-and-run crash on Indianapolis’ east side. The incident occurred just after 8 p.m. at the intersection of East 16th Street and North Post Road, where a vehicle and motorcycle collided.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers arrived at the scene to find the motorcyclist, later identified as 40-year-old Jeremy Davis, critically injured. Investigators learned that the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene before officers arrived. Emergency responders with Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) transported Davis to a nearby hospital, but he tragically died shortly after arrival.
IMPD detectives are actively investigating the crash as a hit-and-run, seeking any witnesses or information that might lead to the identification of the vehicle and driver responsible for the crash.
Our thoughts are with Jeremy Davis’ family during this difficult time, and we hope that justice is served for his tragic loss.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in Indiana
Hit-and-run accidents are a serious issue on Indiana’s roadways, especially when they involve fatal or life-threatening injuries. These incidents often leave victims and their families seeking answers, while also complicating law enforcement’s efforts to bring the responsible parties to justice.
In cases like this, investigators work tirelessly to gather evidence, witness statements, and surveillance footage in hopes of identifying the suspect. The consequences for those who flee the scene of a crash are severe, including criminal charges, civil liability, and the potential for lengthy prison sentences if caught.
Motorcyclists, while enjoying the freedom of the open road, are especially vulnerable in collisions with larger vehicles. The Indiana State Police urge all motorists to drive carefully, avoid distractions, and always remain at the scene of an accident to ensure those injured receive the help they need.
