Laclede County, MO (December 14, 2024) – A serious two-vehicle crash occurred early Saturday morning on Ginger Rd, leaving five individuals injured, with two requiring hospitalization. The collision took place at approximately 12:55 a.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash involved a 2012 Honda Accord driven by a 17-year-old male and a 2013 Ford Flex driven by a 26-year-old female, both from Lebanon, MO. According to investigators, the Honda Accord was attempting a U-turn in the roadway when it was struck on the side by the westbound Ford Flex. The impact caused the Honda to spin out of control and the Ford to overturn. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.
Four occupants of the Honda, including the 17-year-old driver and three juvenile passengers, sustained serious injuries and were transported by Mercy EMS to Mercy Springfield for treatment. Two occupants of the Ford Flex, the driver and a 32-year-old male passenger, sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention at the scene.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with additional units, assisted at the crash site, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured individuals, and we hope for their full recovery.
U-Turn Collisions and Road Safety in Missouri
U-turn collisions, like the one on Ginger Rd, are a common cause of serious accidents on rural and low-visibility roadways. Improper execution of U-turns can lead to side-impact crashes, which are particularly dangerous due to the reduced structural protection for vehicle occupants.
Missouri law requires drivers to ensure that U-turns can be executed safely without obstructing other vehicles. Failure to do so can result in devastating accidents, as seen in this case, where both vehicles sustained significant damage and multiple occupants were injured.
Victims of U-turn accidents may face extensive medical expenses, lost income, and emotional trauma. In such situations, Missouri’s fault-based insurance system allows injured parties to seek compensation from the at-fault driver’s insurance for damages.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a U-turn collision, it is crucial to act quickly. Seeking medical care, documenting the incident, and consulting with legal professionals can provide clarity and ensure fair compensation.
