Iberville Parish, LA (December 13, 2024) – A fatal pedestrian accident occurred early this morning just after 5:30 a.m. on LA 75, just east of Crochet Road in Iberville Parish. The crash claimed the life of 66-year-old Gilmore Couvillion of Plaquemine.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop A, Couvillion was walking west along the north side of LA 75 when he attempted to cross the road. At the same time, a 2013 Hyundai Azera was traveling westbound on LA 75. For reasons still under investigation, Couvillion walked directly into the path of the Hyundai, which struck him in the westbound lane.
Couvillion sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Hyundai, who was wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured in the crash. Both the pedestrian and the driver of the Hyundai had routine toxicology samples taken as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Louisiana State Police is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
