South Charleston, WV (December 11, 2024) – One person is being treated for smoke inhalation following a fire at a home on Kanawha Turnpike in South Charleston early this morning. The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. in the back of the house, quickly spreading and causing significant damage. According to Assistant Chief Cain Flores of the South Charleston Fire Department, the flames destroyed roughly a quarter of the home, while the rest of the structure suffered major smoke damage.

Tragically, the fire also claimed the lives of four pet cats. The homeowner met fire crews in the front yard when they arrived on the scene. The Dunbar Fire Department assisted with the response, and the flames were quickly extinguished, preventing further damage. Fortunately, neighboring homes did not suffer any damage from the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the factors that led to the blaze.

Our thoughts go to the victims as we hope for their recovery.
