The crash occurred shortly after 6:52 PM on Monday, December 9, at the intersection of Northwest 45th Avenue and West Hillsboro Boulevard.
The preliminary investigation reveals that Julio Mendes De Silva was driving a 2024 Toyota Camry westbound on West Hillsboro Boulevard when Madison Yates, driving a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer, made an unprotected left turn directly into the path of De Silva’s vehicle. The collision resulted in significant damage to both cars.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews responded promptly to the scene and transported both drivers to Broward Health North for medical treatment. Tragically, De Silva was pronounced dead at the hospital. The condition of Yates remains unclear at this time.
