Orange County, FL (December 10, 2024) – A single-car crash claimed the life of a 19-year-old man and left another injured Monday afternoon in Orange County. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports that the incident occurred shortly after 3:00 PM on the northbound Florida Turnpike exit ramp leading to the eastbound I-4 express lanes.
According to FHP, the driver of a Mazda MX-5 was traveling northbound on the Florida Turnpike near mile marker 259. As the car approached the I-4 express lanes entrance ramp, the driver attempted to change lanes but lost control. The vehicle struck a concrete wall barrier, overcorrected, and hit another barrier, causing it to overturn onto its roof.
The driver, a 19-year-old man from St. Cloud, tragically died at the scene. The passenger, also a 19-year-old man from St. Cloud, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
