Lakewood, WI (December 9, 2024) – On Saturday, December 7, at approximately 8:17 PM, emergency responders were called to the scene of a tragic all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident in the 17000 block of West Wheeler Lake Ln, in the Town of Lakewood. Deputies from the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office were the first to arrive at the scene, where they discovered the ATV on its side, crashed into several trees in a roadside ditch. A preliminary investigation revealed that the 15-year-old male operator, a resident of Lakewood, WI, was traveling west on a snow-covered and slippery road when he lost control of the ATV while attempting to navigate a curve. As a result, the vehicle left the road and collided with trees in the ditch.
Lifesaving measures were immediately initiated by family members and first responders, but despite their efforts, the young driver tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders from the Lakewood/Townsend Ambulance Service, Town of Lakewood Fire Department, and several other agencies responded quickly, but the severity of the accident ultimately led to the loss of life.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is leading the ongoing investigation, with support from the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
