Magalia, CA (December 9, 2024) – A stolen vehicle crash early Monday morning on Carnegie Rd in Magalia claimed the life of a passenger and left the 16-year-old driver seriously injured. The devastating incident occurred at approximately 2:03 AM in the 14284 block of Carnegie Rd.
Authorities reported that the stolen full-size truck veered off the roadway, causing downed power lines and igniting a brush fire. Emergency responders, including Cal Fire and Enloe FlightCare, arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Two individuals, possibly ejected from the truck, were discovered on the ground nearby. CPR was administered to at least one of the victims, but the passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The 16-year-old driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center. His injuries remain undisclosed. The fire was quickly contained, and Browns Towing was contacted to remove the partially burned truck, which had landed about 20 feet off the roadway.
Eyewitness Beverli Strong, a resident near the crash site, stated that the truck was traveling at approximately 50 mph toward the dead end of Carnegie Rd and crashed without apparent brake application. She described the impact and subsequent fire as extremely loud and noted that the vehicle could have struck a nearby house had it not crashed.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the collision, and the Butte County Sheriff’s Office is overseeing the overall incident. The identities of the individuals involved remain undisclosed.
