Linn County, IA (December 9, 2024) – A single-vehicle rollover crash caused power outages and left two people injured on Saturday night near the intersection of Troy Mills Rd and Paris Rd. The accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m., prompting responses from Linn County Deputies, Linn County Sheriff Rescue 57, Troy Mills Fire Department, and Center Point Ambulance Service.
Emergency crews arrived to find a white Chrysler Town and Country minivan that had left the roadway, rolled, and collided with a power pole. The driver, identified as 40-year-old Jillian Whitaker of Coggon, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel while traveling northbound on Troy Mills Rd. Unable to navigate the curve, the vehicle struck an Alliant Energy power pole before rolling and coming to rest.
Both Jillian Whitaker and her passenger, 41-year-old Gregory Whitaker, sustained minor injuries and were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Jillian Whitaker was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.
The crash resulted in power outages affecting much of northwest Linn County. Crews from Alliant Energy are working to restore power to the affected areas.
